Day 1

Initial Consultation & Intake

A free, confidential call to confirm your eligibility, review your employer's violation notice, and answer every question you have about the process.

  • Confirm DOT mode (FMCSA, FAA, FTA, FRA, USCG, PHMSA)
  • Gather ID, violation details, and employer contact
  • Schedule the formal evaluation

Week 1

Face-to-Face SAP Evaluation

A comprehensive clinical assessment with a qualified Substance Abuse Professional — conducted in-person or via DOT-compliant telehealth.

  • Clinical interview and substance-use history
  • Validated screening tools (AUDIT, DAST-10, etc.)
  • Written recommendation: education, treatment, or both

Weeks 1–3

Education or Treatment

Complete the program recommended by your SAP. We provide vetted, affordable referrals so you're never guessing where to go.

  • Education classes (DOT-approved)
  • Outpatient treatment, IOP, or residential as needed
  • We confirm completion directly with the provider

Week 3–4

Follow-Up SAP Evaluation

A second face-to-face session to verify you successfully completed the program and are ready to resume safety-sensitive work.

  • Final clinical determination
  • Follow-up testing plan is drafted
  • SAP Report sent to employer's DER

Week 4

Return-to-Duty Test

Your employer coordinates a directly-observed RTD drug and/or alcohol test. A negative result clears you to work.

  • Directly-observed collection (federal requirement)
  • Results reported to employer within 24–72 hours
  • You're cleared for safety-sensitive duty

12 Months – 5 Years

Follow-Up Testing Plan

A minimum of 6 unannounced tests in the first 12 months. Your SAP can extend monitoring up to 5 years based on your individual plan.

  • Unannounced, randomly scheduled
  • Managed by your employer's DER
